Heather Isaacs

My initials spell "Hi."

Hi.

The Hairbrush

I am honored to see an essay of mine published in the most recent issue of The Intima: A Journal of Narrative Medicine. The essay describes an encounter I once had with a hospice patient who was struggling with terminal agitation.

When the whole world feels like it is in a state of terminal agitation, I am trying to remember and turn towards stories of unexpected hope and healing in otherwise hopeless circumstances. I carry this story close to my heart and am grateful to be able to share it.

  1. Heather!!! Incredible and congratulations on being published in the journal – Gosh what amazing, beautiful, hard, hard work we do. I resonate so completely with your description “Then, empty-handed, we all stared into the bottom of an abyss we did not understand and watched as someone we cared for fall into it.” It is one of the worst/hardest/most painful feelings of this work for me -I am sure it is for us all.
Love you! Hope you are well.
